Hoping For Aurora's - 13th February
The weather may well be blowy in the UK at the moment, but the Sun also has a strong solar wind blowing too pretty much square on to Earth. On february 12th the sun threw off a Coronal Mass Ejection in an M-class flare from sunspot AR11974. This CME follows on closely from 2 others that left the sun on 11th february, with all 3 CMEs hitting Earth in quick succession this could well spark moderately strong geomagnetic activity on february 14th and 15th. Fortunately for me this is when I travel to Iceland, and with clear skies forecast in Reykjavik on these evenings I hope to be able to get some good photographic prospects. Stay tuned for updates...
