As yet undesignated this little active region has already spawned spots and shows a dynamic magnetic field.

Ha Sun - 2nd september

Normally I prefer a colour disk in Ha wavelengths, however in this instance I think the subtle tones that the monochrome shot brings out render it a better image. This was taken with the DS40 @ f10.5 with a DMK31 camera.

A bit hazy when I took this shot, but it came out!

Sundays Solar Trio - 2nd September

I got a nice view of our star through todays hazy skies at a range of wavelengths: Starting on the left and looking at ultra violet wavelengths the bright white areas indicate where the magnetic fields are at there strongest. The middle shot is at visible wavelengths showing sunspots. The image on the right is at near infra red wavelengths and shows what our star looks like in hydrogen light - the dark lines are clouds of cool plasma floating above the solar surface, with the bright patches being areas of high temperature plasma and flaring, all shaped by magnetic field lines.

White Light Full Disk - 1st September

Can't believe the 1st of september is on us already - only 3 weeks to go until the autumnal equinox and it's getting steadily darker in the evenings! Whilst there are some sunspots on our star, there really are less than you would expect so close to solar maximum early next year. This was a quick taken between the clouds with the 70mm @ f6 using the DMK31 CCD camera. A Lunt solar wedge was used along with UV/IR cut and Baader Continuum filter. This is a 2 pane mosaic post processed in Photoshop CS4.
