CaK Eastern Limb 10th July

The activity coming over the eastern limb may not be as intense as that about to pass over the western limb but it still gives us something to look at in the days ahead.  This image was taken with the 40mm scope at 925mm focal length with the DMK31.

Ha Full Disk 6th July

The sun is the busiest it has been for sometime now, with a large number of active regions and sunspots that are all currently geo-effective.  Numerous filaments are held aloft by the intense magnetic fields and these are seen on the solar limb in the form of flame like prominences.  This image was taken with the DS40 at 560mm focal length with the DMK31 camera.

CaK Full Disk 6th July

From the relatively spare disk of a few weeks ago, now our star is covered in activity, with a whole load of active regions and spots, some several Earth diameters in size.  This image was taken with the 40mm scope at 700mm focal length with the DMK31 camera.

CaK Proms and Ghostbusting 6th July

I used a focal reducer on the nosepiece of the camera for this image to capture the whole of suns disk on the DMKs chip.  This is not something I do very often, but imaging at this scale is very good at showing any ghosting or reflections that are present in the filter train.  I've recently looked at how the various elements in my CaK setup work together, and this image would seem to show that i'm moving in the right direction in shifting the ghost images.  There is still some background scattering visible, which could have been clouds / water vapour when the image was took, but even though the proms were faint when this image was took they are visible never the less.  

CaK Closeup 6th July

I've done some work on my homebrew CaK filter,  and now it lets through more light than it's previous configuration.  While this allows me to take pictures with a shorter exposure time to freeze the seeing, it also allows me to increase the focal ratio.  Here I am shooting at f35 or 1400nn focal length with the 40mm scope and DMK31 camera.  While this focal length is much to long, realistically, for the 40mm; it doesn't bring any extra detail to the image that the shorter 925mm fl does, it still makes for a nice shot!

CaK Active Regions - 6th July

Active regions 12108 and 12109 are some of the biggest spots so far this year, and are crackling with activity as can be seen in this shot taken with the 40mm scope at 925mm focal length with the DMK31 camera.
