Taken with the 100mm TaL refractor at 3200mm focal length there is alot going on in these active regions. However it is only when we look at the scale of these we actually realise how big these features on our star actually are. Spanning the width of the Earth - Moon system, some of the spots that make up these active regions are larger than our planet! NOAA forecasters have boosted the odds of an M-class flare today to 55%, and an X-flare to 10% as potent sunspot AR11785 turns toward Earth. The sunspot has a beta-gamma-delta magnetic field that harbors energy for strong explosions.
